Fisher Pinnacles

When we visited Fisher Towers, northeast of Moab, we camped at the neat little campground below the area's namesake. The early morning light had already engulfed the area by the time we started our dayhike, but wonderful canyon shadows still abounded, including this canyon with its fantastic pinnacles.  

For this painting, I first made an underpainting, which had a “bullseye” of white and yellow in the areas I wanted the most light. In subsequent layers, these areas naturally came out lighter and brighter, creating the strong sensation of light.
